Hey, did you know that Modern Warfare 2 came out this week? I did, but I’m not buying it. A lot of other people did, though. According to internal Activision numbers the game 4.7 million units on launch day. I know this news doesn’t directly relate to Nintendo. Nintendo owners got the original Modern Warfare and we’ll see how sales of that game go. That last two Call of Duty games on the console both sold over a million units so I would expect this one to do similar.

This news relates to Nintendo in this way though. A few days ago we reported on Reggie and the Game Trailers TV Nintendo special. During that program Reggie said he was confident that Nintendo would sell more units of New Super Mario Bros. Wii than Modern Warfare. He couched that comment by saying that NSMB would outsell one other platform of Modern Warfare. I haven’t seen how the numbers break down. There have been some analysts that said Mario would outsell Modern Warfare altogether.

I’m pretty confident that New Super Mario Bros. Wii will sell huge numbers. They will probably not sell 5 million units on day one, but you can bet over the life of the two games and probably through the first year they’re out New Super Mario Bros. will sell more units that Modern Warfare. The DS version of the game is still showing up on the Top 10 of the NPDs month after month. What do you think?
