Sen. Leland Yee Urges Parents to Avoid Violent Video Games
“It is vitally important that parents and grandparents consider the content in video games before making holiday purchases. There is mounting evidence that ultraviolent video games have negative effects on children, and can cause real behavioral changes.” – Senator Leland Yee

I’m not one that completely buys the violent video games argument. Not that I don’t think it doesn’t have an effect, but not that video games are the root cause. They are one piece of a completely intricate puzzle. I do urge parents to pay attention to what they’re children are playing and make decisions appropriate to their child. The ESRB is a great resource for finding what content they consider most inappropriate.
Parents, in the end, have the responsibility of making sure their children are only viewing content, on whatever medium, they deem appropriate. We limit that amount of time our kids can play games and are very aware of what goes into whatever video game system they’re playing on. I will not ever tell one parent what their kid should or shouldn’t play, and I don’t think anyone has that right except the parent, but I will let you know what I feel is reasonable for a child to view and what I find most objectionable in a game.
