BOSS Wii Remote Shell Review
- Button size is nice.
- Good weight in your hands.
See Ya’:
- Dock that holds Wii Remote can be uncomfortable.
- Some might find the buttons too big.
I’ll be completely honest and say that when I first saw the BOSS controller shell on the internet I didn’t think much of it. It looked like a useless piece of plastic. Now that I’ve gotten my hands on the shell I can say I was wrong.
The BOSS, which stands for Big Oversided Super Shell, controller is essentially a housing that fits on top of your Wii Remote that makes the buttons bigger. There are a number of people who have said they don’t like the small buttons and the d-pad on the Wii Remote and this controller shell eliminates the problem. The buttons on the BOSS controller shell overlay just right so that pressing the buttons corresponds to hitting the proper button on the Wii Remote. In your hand it feels a lot like a Super Nintendo Controller. There is a bit of heft to it, but not so much that it becomes uncomfortable. The Wii Remote sitting below it gives the feeling of holding a very nice well made controller and this does not feel in any way that it was cheaply made.
The Wii Remote fits snugly into place and I tested this out with both the standard first party Wii Remote as well as the Nyko Wand. Both controllers fit into the BOSS quite nicely, and there was no wiggle room that would cause the buttons to not be pressed properly. It locks into place with a little movable dock that will keep if from falling out during play.
Just like any other Wii product it has been designed so that the pointer can still be used and unlike the NERF Wii Wheel we showed you earlier this week there is absolutely no issues with the pointer on this shell. The only issue I had with the controller is that the little dock section where the Wii Remote sits rubs against my pointer finger on my left hand. It’s not uncomfortable, it was just something that felt different and was brought to my attention.
I was skeptical when I first saw the controller, but after getting my hands on the product I’m convinced there are people out there who might really like this product. If you don’t play a lot of games that need the Classic Controller and all its buttons or you just want something that makes the buttons on your controller bigger then this is a product you should check out. Folks with bigger hands will really find these buttons more to their liking than the smaller buttons on the Wii Remote.
