Nintendo Retakes Top Sales Spots in Japan
Recently Sony was able to claim the top spot in both hardware and software sales with the release of Final Fantasy XIII. The reign was short lived though as Nintendo has very soundly retaken those spots. For the week ending December 27th, 2009 New Super Mario Bros. Wii sold 506,000 units bringing lifetime sales of the title in Japan to just over 2.4 million. The Legend of Zelda: Spirits Tracks finished second bringing in 291,000 sales. Final Fantasy XII claimed the number four spot with 119,000 sales.
The Wii was also able to claim the top spot back over Sony’s PS3 with sales totaling 215,129 and 110,519 respectively. We should have America’s NPD numbers soon to see how the consoles fared for December in North America.
