Capcom May Not Be Happy With Darkside Chronicles Sales
We’ve got some news from Capcom that may be disconcerting to Wii owners. We recently told you about the studio director from Sega who made an appearance on the latest 4 Guys 1 Up Podcast talking about them probably not looking to Wii for hardcore titles. Now, the latest sales figures for Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles in Europe are pretty sad.
- 3 weeks after launch in Europe, RE:DC sold just 16k, where RE:UC sold 140k
- Capcom thinks Wii is important for family-friendly titles, but the future for them is more aimed at the 360/PS3
- Capcom is disappointed with Darkside Chronicles sales, feels consumers have moved on and become more broad in their interests
- Capcom is indeed concerned about the Wii market
- Capcom believes that big advertising campaigns are very important for Wii success
- Capcom believes the Wii showed its family strengths in 2009, and sees the DS as declining
- Capcom believes 2010 will be a tough year for the DS
Capcom does have big sellers on Wii. Mega Man 9 being the biggest one in recent memory that just jumps to mind. That title was so successful they announced a sequel to it through Nintendo Power. You know they have titles that can move copies. Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition was a huge seller, as was Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. Spyborgs didn’t do so well, but that was also not a very good game. It had a lot of issues. They’ve got their upcoming fighter Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and Monster Hunter Tri, both of which we expect to be big sellers for the company on Wii.
Where do you think all this negativity against the Wii is coming from for Capcom? They’ve been big supporters and have had games sell well on the system.
