Tony’s Time: The One That’s Not About Video Games
I know it’s not Tuesday and this isn’t really a Tony’s Time article, but I had to let you guys know this. Even living in Oklahoma you never really get used to hearing storm sirens go off. This morning at 5 am on the dot I was awakened to the sounds of storm sirens going off in my neighborhood. Now you get trained very quickly in Oklahoma not to completely freak out when you hear them because they go off so often. I got up checked the weather and saw there were no warnings and no talk of tornadoes in the area so I made sure all the kids windows were closed up good and the blinds dropped down and went back to sleep.
Well I woke up 2 minutes after I should have left the house because the storm caused the power to freak out and my alarm didn’t go off. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary in our neighborhood except for my trashcans being blown over, but as I was driving into work to do my
actual day job things looked a bit different. Apparently two miles south of my house is where the worst of the storm hit. Huge trees in the park I drive by every day had been uprooted and were covering playground equipment. My parking lot at the office was covered in tree limbs and fallen trees. I normally park under a large pine tree that’s about a foot and a half in diameter and it was now on the ground split in half. To make matters even better the elevators were not working and I walked up 14 flights of stairs to the office to get to work ON TIME.
Tulsa Public Schools closed today because of power outages at a number of their facilities and 23,000 people in the Tulsa area are without power. Luckily there were no tornadoes in the area and I don’t think there have been any reports of people being injured. Just another crazy morning here in Tornado Alley.
UPDATE!!! News reports are now saying that it may have, in fact, been a tornado that caused the damage in southwest and southern Tulsa. The tornado came within a couple miles of my home and within a mile of my father in law’s house.
That begs the question, though, to bring it back around to video games, what are your favorite weather related moments in video games?
