HoopWorld Screenshot and Info

If you’re eagerly anticipating the release of NBA Jam on Wii, but you just can’t wait to get a little bit of arcade basketball action you might want to look to WiiWare next week.  July 19th is the expected release date for HoopWorld, which is exactly that.  It’s arcade style basketball that is very reminiscent of NBA Jam, or its predecessor Arch Rivals

Streamline Studios, a Spanish game developer, originally planned the game to be released in 2006 for XBLA.  They delayed the game because they were concerned about it’s quality.  They spent that time between then and now working on the game, and together with Virtual Toys, decided to bring the game to WiiWare instead.

I like the last release Virtual Toys put out on WiiWare. Spaceball Revolution was a neat puzzle game and I’m interested in this game now as well. Maybe it’ll really get me ready for NBA Jam later this year.

I think the WiiWare choice is smart, as retail is flooded with games.
Also, it makes me wonder the file size of NBA Jam and if it COULD be WiiWare instead of retail; but that would mean only charging $15 max for it, instead of $50.

I really hope they bring NBA Jam out for a budget price. I don’t know that it will happen, but it’ll be a tough sell at $50 I think. Especially if this game is even halfway good.

WiiWare has been getting some solid releases lately. I would really like to see Nintendo promoting the service a little more.
