Interview with Martin Richards

Gameon is going to be releasing a line of miniature Wii Remotes and other accessories later this year.  To get some more information about these interesting product we invited Martin Richards, the Managing Director of IGS to talk with us.   Thank you so much Martin for joining us today.

These new designs are targeted towards a younger audience, but how well would they be able to be used by older gamers?

Great, especially as the Wii is aimed at a family audience. Mum and teenage girls really benefit from the smaller remote and accessories.

This has to be the most extensive set of peripherals I’ve seen by one company for the Wii. What was the decision behind making so many different pieces?

The Wii has a massive penetration into homes globally. It is, by far, still the most popular family console and the attachment of accessories remains very high, especially with such well made, high quality and, in a lot of cases unique value products Gameon has to offer.

A lot of people would say there is already a lot of plastic junk for the Wii. Why should they pick these items up for their kids?

Designed specifically for children’s hands, they improve game play and the overall experience. They’re a great gift line for all year round, and peak season sales. All of our items are safety approved, ROHS Standard.

I think the balance board is the most interesting to me. Exactly how big is it, how much weight will it hold and could it be used by adults as well?

The full size board is slightly smaller in width than the first party. Our board works with a much wider tolerance than first party and accepts a heavier person.

The mini board is 1/3rd smaller again and works at a much lighter weight tolerance than the first party. All the way up to 12 Stone (168 pounds).

What are all the different pieces in the Wii Sports Resort Pack?

As listed in the catalogue. The mini items are fully illustrated.

Do these different add-on’s still allow for the use of the Wii Remote pointer when they’re attached?

Of course.

How easy are they to attach and remove from the Wii Remote if you want to use them?

Very easy.

Does the Mini Light Sword sound like what people expect it to and how much like a lightsaber will it feel?

No, that would be an infringement against Lucasfilm. It lights up and has a soft feel to the main body, which for the price is exceptional.

Will there be any bundles available for the Wii Remote like a Remote and Motion Plus or a Remote and Nunchuk type bundle?

Yes, to Remote and Chuck

I know they are compatible with Motion Plus, but was there every any thought of including Wii Motion Plus into the controllers themselves?

Yes, but it pushes the price point up too high.

When will these items be available in North America, and can you talk about pricing for these different items yet?

AUGUST 2010

Thanks so much for joining us today. We’re looking forward to seeing more about these in the next

few weeks.

No problem at all. It’s a pleasure.

Look for more information on all of these products as we get closer to their August release.  Until then check out these pictures for the full line of products that will be available.
