Dragon Quest X Requires Online Connection, Subscription
Initial news of the upcoming Dragon Quest X: Awakening of the Five Tribes had me really excited for the game. It was going to be a new DQ experience on a console that’s really needed a game like that. We knew it was going to have some online components, but now it’s looking like there might actually be more than first imagined.
According to a report from Siliconera the game will require a permanent online connection in order to play, though, according to Square Enix the first few hours of the game will be playable offline. After that you’ll have to be on the internet in order to play the game. In addition to that there is also a subscription fee that is going to be charged in order to play the game.
This is not the first time that this has happened as Monster Hunter Tri also required a fee to be paid in order to play the game. That was a Capcom release and only required in Japan. It was not brought to North America. No pricing has been announced or if this will mean additional content to people who pay the fee.
Regardless I’m less interested in the game if I have to pay a montly fee in order to play the game. There’s a reason I don’t play MMO’s. Once I’ve made my initial purchase of the game I want to be able to experience everything I’ve bought on the disc. I don’t play enough of these games to justify spending more money in order to play it and I certainly don’t want to have to pay the fee should I decide to play the game again down the road.
