Euro News Round-Up: Week Ending 18/02
The BAFTA nominees are in, and it looks like it could be a good year for Nintendo, with no less than 6 nominations for 3 of the biggest games released last year. Elsewhere, Bit.Trip is en route a week earlier, and Wario Land is now available to download in the eShop.
Skyward Sword nominated in BAFTAs
While America have the VGAs, the biggest and easily the most important award from a European gaming stance are the Video Game BAFTAs, and this year Nintendo are looking to win big. Mass Effect 2 was the Game of the Year winner last year with Nintendo being sorely neglected throughout, but this year they’re aiming for not one, but six different awards. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword leads Nintendo’s charge with 3 nominations; Game of the Year, the fan voted GAME Award and Gaming Innovation. While Skyward Sword is easily my game of the year, it is up against tough opposition with Portal 2 and Skyrim also nominated.
Elsewhere, Super Mario 3D Land is up for awards in the Design and Handheld Game categories, while Mario Kart 7 picks up a nomination in the Family category. Another notable non-Nintendo nomination is Rayman Origins, which is vying for Artistic Achievement. The BAFTAs take place next month and will be broadcast live online.
Bit.Trip a week earlier
It’s taken a while, but Bit.Trip SAGA and COMPLETE are on their way to Europe thanks to Rising Star Games, and now they’ve been brought forward. The games will now release on 3DS and Wii on March 16th, a week earlier than advertised.
