If you haven’t heard, THQ is strapped for cash lately. The financially troubled company announced today they have transferred the license to Dana White’s UFC organization to EA for an ‘undisclosed sum of money’. Basically that means EA gets the license to help their MMA franchise, which could use the boost. In return, THQ gets a little bit of cash to help them out of the financial funk they’ve been in.

“We have relished our relationship with UFC over the last several years and believe that the UFC gaming brand is in great shape. THQ’s more focused strategy moving forward meant that transferring the license to EA made sense to all parties,” said THQ CEO Brian Farrell. “We would like to thank UFC for their great support and partnership and wish EA all the best moving forward.”

The UFC franchise has seen a number of different devs and publisher over the years. The THQ developed games were generally well received and EA Sports recently got into the MMA arena with the franchise cleverly titled, MMA. This new deal is for multiple years and was announced during EA’s press conference today.
