Animal Crossing 3DS Still in the Works
Much to Shannon’s regret, Animal Crossing was non-existent at E3 this year with the exception of a mini-game in Nintendo Land. The 3DS version of the game was talked about at last year’s show so it was a bit surprising that it was a no-show this year. After the event, NoA President Reggie “The Regginator” Fils-Aime was asked about whether or not the game has been cancelled. His response, “Animal Crossing is a game that is in development.”
How far along the game is in development is up in the air. No one at Nintendo is really talking about it. During this week’s E3 wrap-up podcast I mentioned it could be delayed to allow for some 3DS/Wii U functionality across platforms as I can see no other reason that it would completely disappear from the radar. Considering how popular the franchise is for Nintendo, and how much of the Nintendo Okie crew’s lives have been lost to the game, you’d think Nintendo would make sure to let us know the game is still coming.
I doubt we’ll see any kind of 2012 release for the game so you’ll probably be waiting until next year to become the mayor of your town. Tortimer’s job is safe for a little while longer.
