Tecmo Super Bowl 2013 Now Available

No, no, no.  This isn’t an announcement of a new “official” Tecmo Super Bowl game from the company that brought you one of the greatest football games ever created.  It’s actually the announcement that Tecmo Super Bowl 2013 is now available for download from TecmoBowl.org.  This new game, which features New England’s Rob Gronkowski on its “cover,” is a fan-made update that includes rosters for all 32 NFL teams.  These rosters are current as of last Sunday.

Tecmo Super Bowl 2013 features a few updates from previous versions of the game.

· Adjustable quarter length
· In-game playbook editing
· Half-time stats
· Enhanced passing accuracy and control
· Other various bug fixes from the 2012 version

I played last years version and was surprised at just how accurate it was.  It didn’t correctly predict the Super Bowl winners when I played through a season, but it did have most of the division winners and my beloved Carolina Panthers finished 7-9, which was only one game better than they actually finished.

You will need an emulator to play the game, but it does come bundled with one (Nestopia) in the download folder if you don’t currently have one on whatever machine you play it on.  I’m using a copy of Nesticle and the Homebrew Channel on my Wii, which makes playing the game just like it was back in the 90’s.  Last year was a great update to the game and while I haven’t played this one yet (but will be as soon as I’m done writing this) I can only expect the same good quality out of this year’s product.  If you were disappointed with Madden on the Wii and still want some good NFL action, get this game.

The group behind the game does want you to know they’re not affiliated with Tecmo in any way and this is not an official product from the company.  Download the game FOR FREE by going here.

Hi, how would I get this on my Nintendo Wii? I currently do not have an emulator, or a gaming computer. I’m just looking to really just get the original Super Tecmo on my Wii for a little fun tournament I’m going to have. But can’t seem to find that.

Go to the Tecmo Bowl site in the article and there should be instructions. You need the homebrew Channel with an NES emulator on it.
