Nintendo is really trying to get the word out about Kid Icarus: Uprising, which comes out on Friday. To make sure people know who Pit is they’ve teamed up with a number of different popular animation companies to create animated shorts featuring many of the characters from the series. There are three currently available. Each of them begin with a warning that they are designed for entertainment purposes only and aren’t intended to reflect the quality of the game in any way. I’m posting these here for anyone that does not have a 3DS. I think these are all really good animated videos and I would love to see more of each of them.
The first, called Thanatos Rising, is set in three parts and was created by Production IG. Nintendo fans would know them from their work on the Professor Layton series and Wario Land: Shake It! This is the one that I think most reflects the tone of the game. You get some of the silly banter between Palutena and Pit. You find out that Thanatos must be distantly related to the Mad Hatter and the inhabitants of the world like really tall wooden horses. The first part of this three parter is below. The rest of the videos will be posted after the break.
This time in Spanish. The back of the Spanish version of Silent Hill: Downpour reads, “¿quien puede parar la luvia?” When translated that should say, “Who can stop the rain?” The problem is that the last word ‘luvia’ is misspelled. The actual spelling of the word should have two ll’s and be ‘lluvia’.
Micah must have some sort of prophetic powers because this can’t have happened by accident. Either companies are really getting lazy or this has been going on far longer than anyone has realized. It’s not just Capcom anymore and it’s in other languages as well. when Will the madness end?
I think we all need to band together and buy every publisher a dictionary so this will stop.
When news broke that Capcom had sent out copies of Resident Evil: Revelations with the game’s title mispelled on the spine I thought it might be a coincidence that it had happened. We all know about the incident with the Okami box art for the Wii featuring an IGN watermark. I’ve always said, once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, but three times is a trend. This is apparently the case with Capcom and their box art. Asura’s Wrath is the latest game to be released by the Japanese company to have problems with the box art. A quote on the back of the box reads, “Relentless action and near impossible chanllenges.” How in the world does this keep happening? Micah must be right and Capcom is intentionally releasing games with mispelled words, bad pictures and missing logos. Here’s a list of known instances that have been documented.
Okami (Wii): Features an IGN watermark on the cover just to the right of Amaterasu. Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (Wii): Missing the Wii logo on the spine of the game. Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (Xbox 360): Missing “360″ on the front cover. Resident Evil: Revelations (3DS): Mispelled the word Revelations on the spine of the game.
Asura’s Wrath (Xbox 360): Mispelled the word challenges on the back of the box.
That’s five known games that have had errors on the box art.
Not only that, but in a trailer that went out for the new Kinect game Steel Battalion the copyright line in the trailer mispelled the name of the company. From now on we must refer to them as Capcpom. I’m not making this up people.
I’ve never played Skyrim and really have no desire to do so, but I found this video to be hilarious. I would rank this as one of the best video game parodies I’ve ever seen. It’s based off a glitch in Skyrim that will apparently get one of your companions seemingly killed by a giant only to walk away like nothing happened.
According to the videos creator, Wren the Reaper, it was made in a week with no budget whatsoever. The man in the video is a friend of his and the girl is his girlfriend. You owe it to yourself to watch this one, even if you’ve never played the game. The scream is worth the two minutes of your time.
To make it even better here’s a video of the actual glitch happening in the game with some of the funniest commentary that I’ve ever heard.
I like creative people who do creative things with every day objects. This one happens to be a bit illegal, due to the defacing of money and all, but it’s still creative. One man, known as Lord Thayer, has taken to turning the presidents and founding fathers on our American money into famous fictional characters. His blog, The Dastardly Dollar Bill Art of Lord Thayer, has a selection of about a dozen or so works that he’s done so far. Many, including the one you see above are video game themed so check it out to see the whole collection.
The one featuring Ezio Lincoln is especially appropriate, considering the official reveal of Assassin’s Creed III, set during the American Revolution.
So this week I picked up a copy of Odin Sphere that I found in a local Vintage Stock. I loved Muramasa and had heard about this game, but hadn’t every played it. I got part way through the first chapter when this character showed up. I don’t remember his name in the game, but he looks an awful lot like Dr. Robotnik. I didn’t know he had cousins or that he was that stacked.
If you’re a fan of Kid Icarus, you live in Japan and you love chocolate then Nintendo has got a deal for you. By some chocolates from Takara Tomy for 100 yen and you’ll get one of 20 Kid Icarus AR Cards. The cards will be used in a mini game in the upcoming Kid Icarus: Uprising, which is set to hit stores on my wedding anniversary, March 23rd, here in North America. These cards will become available on March 12th, 10 days before the March 22nd release in Japan.
Japan gets lots of cool, crazy promotional items that we just don’t see over here and it’s a shame. I can imagine Nintendo would make boatloads more cash by offering these things in stores around here as well. Come on Reggie, make it happen. I like chocolate. I like Kid Icarus and I want crazy cross promotional items as well.
Howdy howdy everyone. It’s time for another gameplay challenge. This time it’s based on the fact that there has been a lot of Animal Crossing: City Folk going on in my house over the past couple of weeks. This one is inspired by my watching Jake play the game today. He was setting a timer for himself and then seeing how many fish he could catch in a set period of time. So this challenge involves owning a timer in the game. Set it for 10 minutes and go fish crazy. See how many fish you can catch in 10 minutes. Snap a picture at the end of the 10 minutes and post it in the forums under this week’s Gameplay Challenge thread, leave it here or email it to mail@nintendo-okie.com. I’ll post any entries that we get.
This picture is Jake’s entry into the challenge this week. I’ll be posting mine tomorrow. Let us see how many fish you can catch in 10 minutes. It doesn’t matter what kind of fish. Jake even stopped to catch a roly poly that crossed his path. Bugs don’t count for this challenge, though. Only fish.
Pokepark 2: Wonders Beyond is set to come out later this month on February 27th, but Nintendo wanted to get the word out about this new game now. They’ve sent out some valentine’s with a bit of a pokemon theme to celebrate. Here they are for your enjoyment. You can print them out and send them to your special someone this Valentine’s Day. I mean, who wouldn’t want the most adorable “animals” in the world telling your sweetheart how much you love them?
The game improves on the previous one by now allowing up to four people to enjoy the Pokemon game together. I thought the first one was okay, but it definitely had some flaws. Having some friends, or children, around to help might make things a little better this time around.
On episode 101 of the Nintendo Okie Podcast I had mentioned that I was disappointed about Resident Evil: Revelations getting a price drop. This was because that news made it hard for me to decide whether or not to get Resident Evil over my pre-order of Tekken 3D: Prime Edition which comes out a mere seven days after Revelations (Feb. 14th). As it is I can only afford one game this month, but let me show you something EXCELLENT that helped me make up my mind…
