Chess With Lasers!

Chess is my favorite board game.  That probably makes me a nerd but whatever.  I have a lot of fond memories of when my dad he would teach me the game.  It took me a while to learn how “the horse guy” moved.  I’d say his training paid off as I do alright with chess these days.  I even won a tournament in my high school.  Several months ago (during my short time at a job) I made a couple of friends that introduced me to a game they knew as Deflexion; better known now as Khet.  To put it simply, Khet is chess with lasers.  Instead of being based on medieval times with castles, knights and kings, Keht is more Egyptian based with obelisks, djed and pharaohs.  Instead of capturing pieces by taking over the space they stand on, you have to strike them with one of the two lasers on the board.  Several of the pieces have mirrors on them, so you have to stay on your toes of you may end up shooting your own piece.  The game is rather obscure but a lot of fun if you like games that make you think.  If you have somebody to play it with, maybe you should buy it.

Nintendo Okie Podcast – Episode 86

October 3, 2011 2 comments

If you want to hear us talk about playing games, this is the podcast for you. Tony, Mac and myself have been up to our armpits in games this week and we take the time to tell you all about them. Mac has fallen in love with Battlefield 3, I attempt to play the longest and shortest games in history, simultaneously and Tony has gone digital with his futuristic, download games. We also hit some news this week and complain how Smash tournaments are not to our liking. Also, a proclamation about changing the world is made. To top things off we take a look back what was happening one year ago. After a description like that, how can you not listen?
