Konami had hoped to get the newest 3DS Castlevania game out onto store shelves later this year. Today the company announced they will be delaying the game, for unspecified reasons, until sometime in 2013. The game, which stars Trevor Belmont, saw mixed reaction at E3. I’m interested in checking it out. I love sidescrolling Castlevania games. Looks like my vampire and ghost fix will be filled in 2013.
Last week speculation was running crazy about a new Castlevania game coming to the 3DS. This week we have confirmation courtesy of a Nintendo Power cover and article. The game is called Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate and stars Trevor Belmont from Castlevania III (Sorry, Shelby).
The game will be a lead in to Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2, which currently has no confirmed platforms, but don’t rule out Wii U just yet. It will be a 2.5D game with some occasional trips into a full 3D environment. Trevor will use some form of the combat cross that Gabriel Belmont used in the previous Lords of Shadow game. At some point you will be able to take control of Trevor’s descendent Simon who uses whips, throwing axes and burning oil. There are also two other characters who haven’t been named at this time and you’ll be able to switch between all of these characters at pre-determined points in the story.
“We felt that traditionally Castlevania games had done well on handheld, and indeed found a home there to a certain extent. The whole team really felt we could do something special and memorable on the format that would immerse players totally. The N3DS has allowed us to create something totally unique and exclusive to the format that we think players are going to absolutely love.” – Dave Cox, producer
For those of you with plenty of opportunity for StreetPass the game will utilize both that system and the SpotPass system to enhance gameplay in some way. The touch screen can be used to mark places on the map and makes notes you can refer to later in the game.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate does not have a confirmed release date, but I would expect more news about the game to show up at E3 next week.
