WiiWare games are almost extinct at this point. Since the Nintendownload X-Press stopped rolling, I haven’t been keeping up on the latest WiiWare has to offer. There have been some great games for WiiWare but sadly the service is littered with shoddy ports and shovelware. I was ready to write off WiiWare as the Wii is gasping its last breathes but it turns out there are still some dinosaurs left roaming the plains. Get it because the games are almost extinct and dinosaurs are… whatever, the analogy was better in my head. I guess I could just delete what I typed but that almost seems like cheating now. Anyway, new WiiWare game called Newton Vs. The Horde.
What You Need To Know
The best way I can sum up Newton Vs. The Horde is by calling it a physics-based, point-and-click, tower-defense, puzzle game. While working in their lab, the mad scientist (a tribute to Neil Patrick Harris’ character, Dr. Horrible) and his co-worker, Ms. Denail (who looks like Lucy Liu to me) accidently transport themselves into a dark world filled with shadowy monsters; and since shadowy monsters from a dark world never seem to be nice, they are trying to kill our scientists. Newton has 29 different stages where you will have to use the objects generated and the surrounding environment to survive the horde of monsters. Your weapons include light bulbs to illuminate your path, springs to launch items, bombs to boom stuff, rope, elastic and an assortment of other blunt and pointy objects. The objects can be combined in different ways to build traps and barriers. Plus when all else fails, you can just push and drag objects around. Your objectives vary depending on the stage; survive for X amount of time, kill X amount of monsters, light a path to the exit, etc. Read more…
This week on the Okie Cast a giant chicken sneaks into the recording. Don’t ask me how it happened. Even though I was there I don’t really understand it. Not only do we have oversized chickens but also some talk of Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning, Rhythm Heaven Fever and Newton Vs. The Horde as well as a stack of iOS software. During the news we talk about turtles, space and DLC. What a combo!
