See Ya’:

Up until just recently Nintendo has only sold the Wii Remote in its original white color. They recently introduced the black Wii Remote/Nunchuk combo, but the only way to get custom colors was to do it yourself or look for alternatives that were sometimes hard to find. UltraSaves has introduced two new custom color Wii Remotes to the market, but do they hold up to the original?
The answer, simply, is yes. These custom made Wii Remote use the original insides of Nintendo’s first party controller. The company has just added a bit of flair in two new colors, Red and Blue. Each of these controllers has a form factor that is identical to the white controller that is packaged with the Wii. They have been modified somewhat to have the colored shells, but the A button has been backlit and matches the player indicator LEDs. The blue controller has the original blue colors, but the red remote has had the LEDs changed to match the remotes body. The power button has also been modified with a black logo rather than the red to help it fit in with the black text on other parts of the remote.
I tested the controllers with a number of different games to find out if they really stood up to the Nintendo standard and they passed, sometimes better than my first party remotes. I think this is mostly due to the white ones being three years old and are beginning to show their age. The buttons are solid and very responsive. Of course the first game I used them with was New Super Mario Bros. Wii and they performed admirably. There was no lag between the button press and the action on screen. I then tried them out using the Motion Plus peripheral with Wii Sports Resort. Aside from looking a bit unusual with a white dongle sticking out of the bottom it again held up quite nicely and were perfect in their responsiveness. Other games that were used to test these controllers were: Mario Kart Wii, EA Sports Active: More Workouts, Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo and Super Mario Bros.
Nintendo has been slow to put out custom colors for their controllers. There are some solutions out there that are better than others. If you’re looking for a red or blue alternative just look to UltraSaves custom remotes. I’ve talked to the guys behind these remotes and they would like to do more colors as well as matching nunchuks or Motion Plus. I was told that it all depended on how well these remotes sold. They would like to do green and yellow next. As far as I know they’re not available in stores, but you can find them on Amazon for about the same price as the Nintendo Wii Remote.
Final Score: 5/5 Excellent
Two Wii Remotes were provided for review by UltraSaves. One Red and one blue.
