Nintendo’s Next Console Will Drop Your Jaw

September 7, 2010 Leave a comment

Nintendo’s said that the next home console is still a ways off.  Recently Mr. Iwata said it could be three years or eight years from now.  Whenever it comes you can rest assured that you’ll have your mind blown.  During recent discussions Mr. Iwata said it would have to be more than just an HD console and that you need to be surprised.  Metroid Co-creator Yoshio Sakamoto has even more to say on the topic:

“At Nintendo we always have the obligation to surprise users with a new game console,” Sakamoto told website 3D Juegos in a recent interview. “We have never done what others have. We prefer to create something new that catches attention, and I think this will continue this time as well. Surely the new Nintendo machine will leave you all with your mouth open.”

So, we know that Nintendo doesn’t do things halfway.  The next system will leave you as surprised as you were when you finally got your hands on the Wii and chances are it will do something to innovate, yet again.  We don’t know when that next system will come.  We know it will come and according to the higher ups at Nintendo, we’ll like it when it does.

Metroid Other M Features Psuedo 2 Hour Movie

That’s not to say that they’ve been working on an animated feature for the game.  Instead, once you’ve played through the game one time you’ll have the ability to go to the in-game theater and play all the cutscenes back to back with no breaks.  This gives you the chance to see all of the cutscenes and the entire story together in one place.

“We placed just as much weight on enjoying the story as we did on the action aspects of this game, but it’s hard to fully communicate a storyline in a video game with just one playthrough. At the same time, though, it’s asking a lot of players to beat the game twice to get it all, so that’s where the idea for that mode came from. It lets you make a lot of discoveries, things you missed or dialogue that makes more sense in retrospect. I hope it helps people understand the story better.”

There have been a lot of games that featured a movie gallery style area where you could view each of the games different cut scenes after you’ve unlocked them, but I don’t remember there ever being one that spliced them all together in a virtual movie.  It could be a very interesting feature.  What do you think?  Will you watch all of Metroid’s cut scenes in one time to get the opportunity to watch a “movie” starring Samus Aran?

More 2-D Metroids Are Possible

May 11, 2010 1 comment

It’s no surprise that I’m not the biggest Metroid fan in the world.  I appreciate the Metroid Prime series and am very interested to play it with New Play Control.  I’m not as big a fan of the 2-D Metroids, aside from Super Metroid.  Despite that I’m very much looking forward to Metroid: Other M and will be playing it as soon as it comes out.  It seems like the perfect blend of old and new and could be the beginning of a great new series for the franchise.  Metroid director Yoshio Sakamoto has now said that it may be possible to continue the 2-D trend in the future.

“It’s certainly possible that in the future we’ll go back to another 2-D Metroid using some of the ideas that have been generated on this Other M project. So please don’t get the idea that this is the end of 2-D Metroid games.”

What do you guys think.  Do you prefer the old school 2-D versions of the game or are you more of a fan of the Prime series?
