Zen Studios, the developers behind the digital pinball platform Zen Pinball/Pinball FX, are getting in the holiday spirit by putting their pinball tables on sale for a number of different platforms. In fact, they want you to play their pinball offerings so much they’re offering numerous tables for at least 50% off and as low as .99c on a number of mobile platforms. Here’s the full list of their deals.
• Wii U Sale: All DLC for Star Wars Pinball and Zen Pinball 2 will be 50% off from Dec 19 – Jan 2
• Mobile Sale: Dec 19 – Jan 3, all tables are $0.99 on iOS / Google Play
• Mac Sale: Dec 19 – Jan 3, all tables are $0.99
• Steam Winter sale: Dec 19 – Jan 3, CastleStorm and Pinball FX2 are included!
All of the sales run through December 2nd or 3rd. There are a number of their tables I don’t have on Wii U at the moment so I will probably be taking advantage of some of these sales. I highly recommend the Plants vs. Zombies table and The Clone Wars table in Star Wars Pinball is easily my favorite of them all.
Zen Studios has announced that their newest digital pinball release will be coming to various platforms next week. These three new tables are Star Wars themed and will see you playing on areas themed with the likes of Boba Fett, Han Solo, Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.
The three tables are Star Wars: Episode V, Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Boba Fett. The schedule for release and pricing is as follows:
Pinball FX2™ on Xbox LIVE® Arcade – February 27th for 800 MSP
Zen Pinball 2™ on PlayStation®Network for PlayStation 3 & PlayStation Vita with Cross Buy entitlement! Purchase once and play on both systems – February 26th in North America for $9.99, February 27th in Europe for €9.99
Zen Pinball 2 on the Mac®App Store – February 27th for $2.99/table
Zen Pinball on the Apple®App Store – February 27th for $1.99/table
Zen Pinball HD Google Play™ – February 27th for $1.99/table
They also said that the new Star Wars tables would be coming to “other platforms” at a later date.
What do you get when representatives from Zen Studios and PopCap Games meet over lunch during GDC 2012? Well, you get a pitch for Plants vs. Zombies pinball, of course. The game was actually pitched by a member of PopCap Studios’ development team and was given the green light as long as no time was wasted developing a pinball engine. It just so happens that Zen Studios has such an engine and so the partnership was formed.
I can’t tell you just how excited I was that this table was announced. It was teased a few weeks ago with some of the most likely candidates for a PopCap themed table being PvZ, Peggle or Bejeweled. The latter two being the more obvious choices as those games have mechanics that might be more suited to a pinball table. I think it’s hard to argue with just how popular Plants vs. Zombies actually is and now we have a table based on the popular lawn defense game.
So I guess the NFL playoffs are going on or something because there is a lot of football talk on this podcast. Thankfully most of it is related to NFL Blitz. This week Tony, Micah and I are joined by friend of the site Steve Conger from thegamesmen.com. Other than Blitz we talk a little Saints Row: The Third, a little Dead Island and a little Zen Pinball. When we get into news we discuss how one Chinese man hates his money, how Activision is paranoid about the internet and if Capcom has forgotten Mega Man exists.

If you like this show and you have been listening for a while, why haven’t you sent us an email to firstname.lastname@example.org yet? Maybe you have been too busy watching out videos on YouTube. Or perhaps you have been spending you time typing on our forum. Oh I know, you spend so much time reading stuff from our Twitter and our Facebook pages that you can’t afford to do anything else.
Tony and I got a chance to talk with Mel Kirk and Neal Sorens from Zen Studios. This is a quick 30 minute interview where we talk about Pinball FX2 as well as the upcoming Zen Pinball 3D. Both Mel and Neal give us some behind the scenes info on what goes into making tables and working with Marvel. They also announce the North America release date for Zen Pinball 3D. As an added bonus, we somehow get to talking about Mario Kart in the end.

Thanks again to Mel and Neal as well as everybody at Zen Studios. If you want to keep tabs on them, they have a Twitter account, a Facebook page and their forum. As always, you can listen to the normal Okie Cast on Mondays… except we probably won’t do one this week because of Christmas… so almost as always. And you can still get in on your chance to win a free game on our trivia podcast. If you liked those Zen Studio links then you might like our Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and forum links as well.
The Nintendo eShop has been curiously devoid of a lot of original games to play. Much like the 3DS itself it’s been a bit of a slow starter, but things are starting to pick up. Nintendo has released two exclusive eShop games in the last month and they’re set to release three more at the beginning of 2012. None of the eShop games announced through a press release today has a firm release date, but they’re all slated for release in the first quarter of 2012.
Among the games announced Nintendo has three titles all set to go. The first was announced back at E3 2011, Dillon’s Rolling Western. This game stars an armadillo who’ll defend a town by rolling around and knocking down enemies. It’s a bit action and a bit tower defense, but it looks like a lot of fun. They’ve also got Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword, which was previously announced, but new to the list is Kirby’s Block Ball, which was originally released for the Game Boy back in 1996. There was no word whether this is a new game, or a remake of the original title.
Also coming to the eShop are two games being published by Nicalis. The first is NightSky, a moody platformer that stars a rolling ball that you need to navigate through dark levels filled with pits and other obstacles. The other is the criticially acclaimed VVVVVV. Wayforward continues their love of Nintendo platforms with a new, original eShop game, Mighty Switch Force.
That’s not all, though. Shin’en Multimedia has two games coming as well. Fun! Fun! Minigolf TOUCH and a new game in the Jett Rocket franchise, Jett Rocket Super Surf. Zen Studios is bringing their popular pinball franchise Pinball FX to the 3DS in the form of Zen Pinball, which will have four tables available initially with more becoming available as downloadable content. Colors! 3D from Collecting Smiles rounds out the list of almost a dozen original eshop titles that will be available in the first three months of 2012.
Zen Studios are the masterminds behind the downloadable Pinball FX 2 game currently available for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. The game combines all of the tables from the original game with several new ones, including a number of tables based on Marvel super heroes. There is also a table based on the game Ms. Splosion Man that will be available very soon.
Now the company, through a press release, has mentioned that they will be releasing a pinball game for the 3DS. It’s currently being called Zen Pinball 3DS. All indications say that this will be a collection of four tables that have previously been available for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Shaman and El Dorado come from the PS3 version of the game and until that point have been exclusive to that system. The other two tables are Excalibur and Earth Defense, which are currently available on both systems.
The game will be available later this fall from the Nintendo 3DS eShop. I’ve reached out to the studio for more information on the game. It will be playable at PAX Prime so if you’re going to be attending the event stop by the Zen Studios booth for a demo.
