We’re back once again to let the crew spout off on a random topic for the week. Capcom develops a very popular fighting franchise that we all know and love. They’ve been very friendly with other franchises in the past as well. We’ve seen the Street Fighter crew take on Marvel super heroes, the SNK crew, and members of the Tatsunoko company. Now they’re working with Tekken to develop two different games. With that in mind, “Who would you like to see Capcom team up with next and what would your dream lineup consist of?”
Shelby Says: The best and worst part about fighting games is the character selection. With more characters you have more variety to choose from but it also makes things more difficult to balance. The balance factor is compounded when you introduce thing like tag matches. That is probably why I never got into Marvel Vs. Capcom. Since Capcom seems to be the company that has all the connections, I want to see a game that incorporates several (if not all) of the major fighting games together. I previously thought this couldn’t be done, but after seeing the footage of Street Fighter X Tekken I have realized the foolishness of my ways. I want a game to combine Dead Or Alive, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Soul Caliber, Bloody Roar, Killer Instinct and Virtua Fighter. More than likely something like this would never happen but imagine the leap fighting games would take if teams from each franchise were brought together to make one awesome game. They could share some of their development tricks and brainstorm together how to fix major issues plaguing the genre.
As for a dream lineup, I figure six characters from each franchise would suffice.
Dead Or Alive: Ayane, Kasumi, Christie, Lisa, Tina, Hitomi
Tekken: Xiayou, Yoshimitsu, Nina, Heihachi, Brya, Jin
Mortal Kombat: Scorpion, Sub Zero, Kitana, Raiden, Lu Kang, Johnny
Street Fighter: Chun-Li, Ken, Ryu, Guile, E. Honda, Zangief
Soul Caliber: Ivy, Amy, Cassandra, Kilik, Nightmare, Mitsurugi
Bloody Roar: Alice, Bakuryū, Uriko, Yūgo, Long, Gado
Killer Instinct: Fulgore, Black Orchid, Cinder, Galcius, Spinal, Chief Thunder
Virtua Fighter: Akira, Sarah, Jacky, Aoi, Eileen, Lion
Gaz Says: I’ll have to give this one a miss, seeing as I don’t play fighting games and therefore have no idea on anything other than Smash Bros (which is fun I’ll admit)
Tony Says: Who do I want to see Capcom team up with this time? Obviously Nintendo would be my first choice. Maybe a StreetFighter X Nintendo type game where each company creates their own fighter. Who wouldn’t want to see Ryu taking on Mario or Link beating up on Blanka? That would be my first choice, but that’s not actually who I want to talk about.
My real choice for this week is actually Disney. There is a ton of material that Disney could pull from the make this game. I’m not talking necessarily StreetFighter, but more of Capcom as a whole, much like the MvC series. Disney also has the luxury of now owning Marvel comics so they’ve got a bit of a leg up. You could go with more realistic styles of fighters like Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates franchise or you could pull someone like Tarzan from the animated shows that Disney is famous for.
I would make the initial lineup fairly small to keep it simple. You’ve got the ability to create a fighter that appeals to a wide range of gamers. Both companies have IP that appeal to younger gamers and older gamers alike. I’m going to pull some of the same characters that you see from Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Characters like Viewtiful Joe, Mega Man, Amiterasu would lead the Capcom side. While Captain Jack Sparrow, Quorra from Tron, and Tarzan would lead the Disney side. Here’s my lineup.
Capcom: Mega Man, Ryu, Blanka, Viewtiful Joe, Arthur, Little Nemo, Shantae (they published the Gameboy game), Phoenix Wright, Amaterasu
Disney: Tarzan, Jack Sparrow, Uncle Scrooge, Quorra, Sam Flynn, Aladdin, Buzz Lightyear, Arthur (Sword in the Stone), Cliff Secord (The Rocketeer)
There would be other characters released as DLC to bulk out the roster.
So you’ve heard the companies that we want to see Capcom team up with. Now you let us know who you’d like to see. Do you want to see a Smash Bros. style game with Street Fighter characters? Do you want to see Capcom team up with breakfast cereal characters? The possibilities are endless. Let us know your thoughts.
