SuperSmashCon Coming In August

I’m not sure how I missed this but I figured I’d put this up here just in case others also missed this. Earlier this month, a very good announcement happened for Smash Bros. fans. VGBootcamp, Super Smash Bros. esports broadcasters, announced they will be streaming the first-ever SuperSmashCon. Finally the Smash community will have their own convention.

The convention will be held at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, Virginia August 6-9. It will be hosted in a 100,000 square foot space filled with events, vendors, live music, raffles, and exclusive panels. Of course, you can’t have fighting game fans gather without tournaments and tournaments there will be. Robin “Juggleguy” Harn and Michael “Nintendude” Brancato, both famed Smash Bros. players, will organize and run tournaments for Super Smash Bros. 64, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Super Smash Bros. Wii U and there will be over $30,000 in pot bonuses. The tournaments will be streamed by VGBootcamp.

No Smash Bros. mods, including Project M, will be at the event. Registrations will open up sometime in April.

(Editor’s Note:  The story was originally posted saying that VGBootcamp will be hosting the event.  They are only streaming the coverage.  The story has been updated to reflect this change.)

  1. 1. VGBootCamp didn’t announce this. They have no part whatsoever in hosting the event. They are there to stream it online.

    2. It’s being hosted and run primarily by a man named Justin Wykowski. He is a smash enthusiast and a business owner with plenty of experience in running trade shows.
Him and his company are the ones supplying the giant pot bonus. As of now, there is no involvement with any other Sponsors / Nintendo.

    Interview :

    3. Justin never said no Project M. He does really want Project M to be officially recognized there, but he doesn’t want to announce Project M’s presence at the convention and then have to go back on his word because Nintendo came around and decided to Sponsor the event.

    • I’d like to make clear that while the announcement video is on VGBootCamp’s channel, they weren’t the ones to “officially” it.
