I’m not sure how I missed this but I figured I’d put this up here just in case others also missed this. Earlier this month, a very good announcement happened for Smash Bros. fans. VGBootcamp, Super Smash Bros. esports broadcasters, announced they will be streaming the first-ever SuperSmashCon. Finally the Smash community will have their own convention.
The convention will be held at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, Virginia August 6-9. It will be hosted in a 100,000 square foot space filled with events, vendors, live music, raffles, and exclusive panels. Of course, you can’t have fighting game fans gather without tournaments and tournaments there will be. Robin “Juggleguy” Harn and Michael “Nintendude” Brancato, both famed Smash Bros. players, will organize and run tournaments for Super Smash Bros. 64, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Super Smash Bros. Wii U and there will be over $30,000 in pot bonuses. The tournaments will be streamed by VGBootcamp.
No Smash Bros. mods, including Project M, will be at the event. Registrations will open up sometime in April.
(Editor’s Note: The story was originally posted saying that VGBootcamp will be hosting the event. They are only streaming the coverage. The story has been updated to reflect this change.)
