Fans Creating 2D Version of Ocarina

Nintendo fans continue to impress me. Their devotion and love to the games from this Japanese country is unmatched by any fanbase anywhere. We’ve seen numerous fan projects where fans bring old games back to life and in new ways. This most recent one has a group of fans working on a 2D demake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. You can see it in action in the video above and it looks fantastic. Not only does it look and feel much like I would expect a 2D, sprite based version of the game would look like they’ve also worked in online multiplayer with different versions of Link to boot.

Based on Nintendo’s track record, most recently with the hi-res version of Super Mario 64 created in Unity this will probably get yanked and will never see the light of day, but it should. I would play this in a second if it was publicly available. I’d buy it straight from Nintendo if they took this, allowed the developers to release it and made it available on the eShop.
