European Release (Week beginning 20th April)

008wxdy2Hello! and welcome to the very first post brought to you by the NintendPals, the latest edition to the Nintendo Okie family. If you don’t know what any of that means then take a look at this or visit our blog and all will become clear.

Anyway, down to business. Every week, preferably on a Tuesday, I (Myles) will be bringing you all the physical and digital releases scheduled for the week, along with some of my own thoughts and opinions on the products in question. If you have any suggestions for what you’d like to see here, don’t hesitate to contact me, which you can do by emailing me at myles.foale@nintendo-okie.com.

There are no digital releases for 3DS this week and no physical releases for either console this week.

Wii U – Available 23rd April 2015

The Mario Kart DLC 2 Pack: Yes, the long awaited second DLC pack for Nintendo’s premier racer will be available this week. Featuring 8 new tracks which will be split into two cups, which includes series favourite Baby Park from Mario Kart Double Dash, 3 new playable characters; The Villager from Animal Crossing (boy and girl versions), Isabelle from Animal Crossing and Dry Bones Bowser and 4 new karts to zoom around in, including a rather fetching moped called the city trooper. All of this will be available for £7 or €8 unless you purchased the season pass back when the first DLC came out, in which case you just need to download it.

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL! When the new DLC comes out on the eShop, there will also be an update released for the game that will add the insanely fast 200cc mode to the game for free!!! You should automatically get a prompt to download the new version when you boot up your copy of MK8, but if you don’t just try to access the online modes and you’ll be redirected to the update.

Virtual Console Releases

Mario Kart: Super Circuit – This was the first ever portable version of Mario Kart, which originally came out on the Game Boy Advance and is stylised very similarly to the god father of kart gaming, Super Mario Kart. No multiplayer option in this one, unfortunately, but for the very reasonable price of £6.99 or €6.29 this is well worth the nostalgia trip it will no doubt take you on.

Street Gangs – This release of the 1991 “classic” is a side scrolling beat-em-up similar in vein to Streets of Rage or Double Dragon but with much simpler graphics. It does try to add some very basic RPG elements, like allowing you to buy items at a shop, and has local multiplayer which will provide a good laugh if you can find someone willing to play it with you. Street Gangs will be available for £3.49 or €4.99.

Price Drops and Discounts

Kirby eShop Week – In the lead up to Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush’s release, which is currently scheduled for 08/05/15, there are a number of discounts on Kirby games across both Wii U and 3DS. Also, if you buy or own any of said games, you’ll be able to get 10% off when the game launches as long as you buy before the 14th May 2015, of course this is limited to the eShop version of the game. The games included in this promo that will also receive a price drop are as follows (promotional prices included):

Wii U
Kirby’s Adventure Wii (£13.49/€14.99)
Kirby’s Dream Land 3 (£2.74/€3.99)
Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland (£3.14/€3.49)

3DS
Kirby Fighters Deluxe (£4.39/€4.89)
Kirby’s Dream Land (£1.79/€1.99)
Kirby’s Dream Land 2 (£1.79/€1.99)

Myles’ Pick
I think it’s obvious, based on my description, but the Mario Kart DLC will be going straight on my shopping list this Thursday. I absolutely loved what Nintendo added in pack 1 and, being the massive Animal Crossing fan that I am, I can’t wait to take Isabelle around the Animal Crossing track in 200cc mode. If you want a race, let me know and I’ll see you on the track.
