eShop Software

Ultratron (£6.50/€8.49 until 28th May, normally £7.99/€9.99) – If you’re in the mood for a retro style shmup with sharp HD visuals and just, chaos happening on your TV then this twin stick shooter; Ultratron is the game for you. It looks like a fairly in depth game too, featuring 40 levels, adaptive difficulty and an upgrade system.

Nihilumbra (£5.49/€6.99 until 28th May, normally £7.99/€9.99) – This is a unique looking platform, puzzle game in which you use the Gamepad to put paint on the world that allows you to interact with it in various ways. There is also a two player mode where one player plays as the lead character and the other takes charge of the painting. It’s a subtle and pretty game, well worth a look.

Wii U Virtual Console

Mega Man Battle Network 2 (£6.29/€6.99) – Mega Man Battle Network 2 is a spinoff of the main Mega Man series that was released for the Gameboy Advanced in 2001. Unlike the main series, Battle Network is an RPG featuring a turnbased-grid battle system. You can also customise Mega Man’s abilities and look to suit how you play as you progress through the epic campain to save someone or something to save the world, I assume…

Mega Man Zero 4 (£6.29/€6.99) – It’s a Mega Man double whammy this week on the Virtual Console as Mega Man Zero 4 also joins the collection. Also released on the GBA, Mega Man Zero 4 is another spinoff to the main series where you play as Zero (nice name) in a far more traditional Mega Man title. The game features some new gameplay features for this particular subseries and it is also the finale of said series taking place several months after the events of MMZ3.

Physical Releases

Code Name S.T.E.A.M (£34.99/€39.99 (Free 3DS wallpaper if you download from the eShop)) – Code Name S.T.E.A.M was released in the USA a few weeks ago and received a few mixed reviews (current Metacritic score is 71) but looks really cool nonetheless. Brought to us by the team behind the amazing Fire Emblem series, CNS is a turn-based, 3rd person, strategic combat game where you play as a squad of specialist agents under the employ of Abraham Lincoln. It’s safe to say this game is fairly off the wall in its concept but the action is far more serious and really makes you think about what your doing before taking any action on the battlefield. If you’re not sure that this is for you, there is also a demo on the 3DS eShop.

eShop Software

3D Thunderblade (£4.49/€4.99) – This is another 3D remaster by SEGA of one of its classic games. Released way back in 1987, Thunder Blade is a topdown shooter in which you pilot a helicopter equipped  with all manner of weapons to rain down destruction from the sky. Some updates to the game include full stereoscopic 3D, a remixed soundtrack and a new unlockable mode.

Myles’ Pick

myles-foaleThis week I’m struggling to nail down just one thing that I want. As I can only afford one thing though I’ll probably be hoping to pick up Code Name S.T.E.A.M. I really enjoyed the demo and have been watching it closely for the last few weeks. I was put off by some poor reviews but I figure I’ll trust my opinion and take a chance on it. I’d also really like to get my hands on Mega Man Zero 4 (but maybe I should start at the 1 which is also on the Virtual Console), Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D and Super Street Fight IV 3D as they’re at such fantastic prices right now.
