Nintendo has announced what they’ll be doing at E3 this year and it’s pretty exciting. Some old things, some new things, the return of the Nintendo World Championship. Wait. What?
That’s right. Nintendo announced today that the Nintendo World Championship will be returning this year. For the first time since 1990 you’ll be able to compete in the classic event. Beginning on May 30th Best Buy locations around the country will be hosting qualifying tournaments for the event. The winners from each of those regional events, plus people invited by Nintendo will meet at the Nokia Theater in LA on June 14th. The event will be a multi-round competition based on different Nintendo games. The winner will be crowned the 2015 Nintendo World Champion.
Much like last year Nintendo will host a Nintendo Digital Event. This takes the place of what was their traditional E3 press conference. It will be shown on Tuesday, June 16th beginning at 9:00am PST (12:00pm EST). They’ll be showing off numerous games and giving detailed information about what to expect throughout the rest of the year.
After that for the rest of E3 they’ll be hosting Live Treehouse presentations featuring many of the games currently in development. It will include multiple game play demos and interviews with many of the developers.
They’re going to be giving fans around the country a chance to get some time playing Mario Maker as well. Various Best Buy locations will host events featuring the game. The events will take place 4-9 p.m. local time on Wednesday, June 17, and noon-5 p.m. local time on Saturday, June 20. Attendees will receive a sweet 30th anniversary Super Mario Bros. pin while supplies last.
