This is the first time I’ve seen this. It’s a Kickstarter campaign raising money to pledge to another Kickstarter campaign. An artist/3D modeler from Albuquerque named Jonathan has launched a Kickstarter looking to raise $5,000. Why does he want to do this? Well, he wants to contribute to Koji Igarashi’s Kickstarter campaign for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. He’s hoping to raise enough money to contribute to the funding level where he can get a monster to appear in the game.
In his description of the campaign he talks about his love for the Castlevania franchise, especially Symphony of the Night, which he owns on four different consoles. He says he’s been painting monsters since he was a kid and that all he’s ever wanted to do was create creatures.
He shows off some of his artwork and links to his personal portfolio of work. There are multiple tiers for backers to pledge to his campaign. Rewards include getting digital or physical versions of artwork he’s created.
He does say that if he gets funded, but the backer tier for Bloodstained fills up before he can pledge he’ll refund any money he earns. It’s a bold step and the first time I’ve ever seen anything like this. It’ll be interesting to follow and see if he reaches his goal. As of this writing he has 4 backers who’ve pledged $142 towards his goal of $5,000. The Kickstarter campaign has four days left.
