Arc System Works Now Owns Kunio-Kun

Super Dodge Ball ScreenIf you’re not familiar with the term Kunio-Kun you may still be familiar with games in that series. The franchise was created by Technos Corp in Japan and featured games such as Double Dragon, River City Ransom and Super Dodgeball.

Those games, and all IP created by Technos Corp were purchased by Arc System Works, the creators of BlazeBlue. The company is very familiar with fighting games and action brawlers so the games in this franchise seem like they would be a perfect fit to add to the library of games available to the company.

Does this mean we’ll see a new Double Dragon or River City Ransom soon? Most likely not, but it does mean that they could show up in the next year or two. Those characters could also begin making cameos in the BlazBlue or Guilty Gear franchises as well.

I, for one, would be perfectly okay with more games in the Kunio-Kun series. They were always a lot of fun and had a charm that many other series just couldn’t capture.

  1. Slight error: Double Dragon isn’t a Kunio game. It was made by Tecmos and Kunio’s original creator, but it’s considered a separate series.
