During the recent Japan Expo in Paris, a very unexpected and what appears to be unplanned announcement was made. Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii spilled the beans and said that Dragon Quest VII and VIII will be localized in French. And with that, most people, myself included, are expecting a full western release in PAL and NTSC regions.
In an interview with Polygon, series executive producer Yuu Miyake said that the team really wants to get the games out in North America. He also stated that fans should keep asking about the games and should pick up Dragon Quest Heroes to help support the series.
We want to get them out here. We really do! The Dragon Quest games are very text-heavy, so the time and the cost it takes to localize these and do it well is quite something. Business-wise, we have to think quite hard whether we’ll make that money back from localizing to North America. It’s always been a difficult decision. But the more you tell us, the louder the voices, the more likely we are to do it.
Dragon Quest is a series I personally have been wanting to see make it west for quite some time. I’ve even went on record saying my biggest . One of the biggest reasons I bought a Wii U is the idea of being able to get Dragon Quest X on it. If there’s still a shot to not just get Dragon Quest VII and VIII but also X, oh man. Hopefully, we’ll see more on this soon.
