The NPD numbers for June have come out and in it are good but expected numbers. Batman: Arkham Knight has sold over 1.5 million copies across all systems and is the best selling game of this year so far. 3DS sales are up by 40% from last year this time. The Playstation 4 is still the top selling system. Xbox One sold 51% better then it did last June. The list goes on.
But I didn’t start writing this to talk about general sales. No. I’m writing this to talk about Mario Kart 8. Mario Kart 8 passed the 2 million units sold mark in North America alone. This is on a system with an install base of around 10 million and total sales of around 4.7 million. That’s an insane attach rate.
While the Wii U sales haven’t been the greatest for Nintendo and while Mario Kart 8 may have not sold on par with it’s predecessor, Mario Kart Wii, that’s still very impressive. That attach rate is actually better then Mario Kart Wii in both North America and globally. My hats off to you Nintendo, bravo.
