Nintendo TVii Is Closing Shop August 11th

Earlier this year, Nintendo officially cancelled the Nintendo TVii service in Europe. In June, they removed the Nintendo TVii icon from European Wii U’s. Considering the service never really started in Europe, the news of it didn’t surprise anybody.

Unfortunately, its cancellation was a sign of things to come. Nintendo TVii is now shutting down in North America August 11th at 3:00pm PT. This news comes in the way of an official post in the Nintendo TVii Miiverse.

After almost 3 years of finding, watching and engaging with Nintendo TVii, we will be ending the service on August 11, 2015 at 3:00pm PT. At the same time, we will be closing the Nintendo TVii Miiverse community.

We sincerely thank you for all of your engagement within the community and the Nintendo TVii service. We look forward to your contributions within our many other Miiverse communities.

I personally have never used Nintendo TVii so I can’t comment on it from personal use. From what I’ve seen and heard of it though, it always seemed like it could have been an interesting feature but it never lived up to it’s potential. It was missing the seamless integration of streaming services, missing the Wikipidia and IMDB features, and pretty much missing all the multi tasking features it was initially shown off to have.

Did you use Nintendo TVii? What were your thoughts on it? Are you sad to see it go?
