Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King originally came out way back in 2005 on the Playstation 2 here in North America. Bonus fact: it was the first game in the series to feature the Dragon Quest name as all the previous entries in the franchise here featured the Dragon Warrior title that was originally used to get around a copyright issue. As such many people may not have had the chance to play the game yet.
Nintendo has put together a little introductory trailer for the game. In it you get to meet some of the characters you’ll be spending your adventure with including Jessica, Yangus, Angelo and King Trode. It also wants you to know that there will be no random encounters. It wasn’t until the DS release of Dragon Quest IX that you got to see enemy characters on the screen. This is a really welcome change for anyone that’s played this game before.
Check out this trailer for the game and take a look at the screenshots below to get an idea of just what to expect. This is one of my favorite entries in the series and I’m very eagerly awaiting the release of this game on 3DS. Keep it here for more information about the game as we get closer to launch.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is set to hit stores for the 3DS on January 20th, 2017.
