Yooka-Laylee is without a doubt one of the most anticipated games currently in development. It was a huge success on Kickstarter. The studio behind the game was also behind games like Banjo & Kazooie. This game harkens back to the platformers of the N64 and PS1 era. Now Playtonic, the developers of the game, have announced when fans will be able to get their hands on the game.
Beginning on April 11th 2017 players on PC, PS4 and Xbox One will be able to take the titular characters through their first adventure. There is some bad news that comes along with this announcement, however. Fans who were hoping to play the game on Wii U will not be able to as it has been announced that the developers are cancelling the Wii U version due to “unforseen technical issues”.
Kickstarter backers who had opted for a Wii U version of the game now have the opportunity to move their reward to one of the other systems available or wait for the announcement that the game is coming to Switch. While that wasn’t guaranteed the developers do say they hope to have details for that announcement sometime early next year.
More and more Wii U games are being cancelled outright or moving their development resources to Switch. With the full reveal of that console only a month away and the release just over three months away I expect we’ll see more and more of that as we get closer to those dates.
