Many long time readers of this site and listeners of the podcast know that I am a .hack// enthusiast, and how overjoyed I am with the announcement today that .hack//G.U. Last Recode is getting localized. The G.U. trilogy was the last .hack// series to be localized in the US with volume 3 back in September 2007 on the Playstation 2. .hack//Last Recode will be all three G.U. games with uprezzed graphics and numerous enhancements to gameplay such as a more modernized combat system.
I was honestly worried when Last Recode was announced as part of the .hack// franchise’s 15th anniversary because it’s been about 10 years since the last .hack// game has graced our shores. There have been a few titles that have released in Japan since G.U. such as .hack//Link for PSP and .hack//Versus for PS3, which was included on the hybrid disk movie .hack//Beyond The World. I was slowly gaining hope for a localization when Last Recode was trademarked in Europe meaning a possibility that an english version would exist for importing. The entire .hack// fan community, myself included, have breathed a collective sigh of relief following today’s announcement for an English localization.
.hack//Last Recode releases in North America and Europe in late 2017 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
