Dragon Quest Builders 2 Coming to Switch

I can remember when Dragon Quest Builders was first announced back in 2015. The Minecraft look mixed with the Dragon Quest universe immediately caught my attention. It was everything I thought I wanted in Minecraft. The game came out in October of 2016 and I finally got to play it earlier this year. It was everything I thought it would be and makes it a bit tough sometimes to go back to playing Minecraft. I really thought it was going to be a one and done title and that we wouldn’t see another one. I was wrong.

Over the weekend Square Enix announced that they’ll be releasing a followup to the game, cleverly titled Dragon Quest Builders 2. The game looks to follow directly behind the events of the first game, though I can’t confirm that exactly. You’re playing as the same character this time around, but you won’t be alone. The game has been confirmed to have four player multi-player, a dog and some new exploration options. Previously if your character landed in water that went above their head they drowned. Now, after having gone to the Assassin’s Creed School of Swimming the character will be able to explore areas under water. The animation for that also reminds me a bit of Mario’s swimming animation from the original Super Mario Bros. A new hang gliding mechanic will also allow you to explore large areas of the world from above the ground and admire everything you’ve worked so hard to build.

The best news of all concerning this announcement though are the platforms. While no release date has been mentioned as of yet the game will be heading to PS4 and Switch. Yep. Dragon Quest Builders 2 on the go or at home. For me that’s going to be a very dangerous combination.

I’ve included a short video showing off some of the gameplay from the announcement below.
